How this works
On Octopus Energy's Agile tariff the price of electricity changes every half hour, following the wholesale market. Octopus publishes the next day's prices at around 4pm; until then, tomorrow's chart repeats today's prices as a rough guide, marked "forecast". Prices usually follow a similar daily shape, but a change in the weather can move the whole day up or down.
Carbon intensity is how much CO₂ is emitted for each kilowatt-hour drawn from the grid in your region. It falls when wind, solar and nuclear make up more of the supply, which is also when wholesale prices tend to be lowest - so the cheapest times and the greenest times often line up.
To use it, pick your region, then set your washing machine or dishwasher's delay timer to start at the time shown above. Each bar is the average for that hour.
